From 20 to 22 of March 2014, twenty international secretaries from ETUC affiliates gathered in Sesimbra (PT) for a special ETUI training course on the question: ‘What kind of trade union for what kind of Europe?’

It was a useful meeting for exchanges outside of the usual bodies in the form of a free and frank discussion about the European project and the future of trade union action.

Using pedagogical methods and taking advantage of a lot of outside observers (academics, social movement representatives), the focus was on the difficulties of influencing European decisions, on views for a radically different EU, and on the question how to build the future and to reinforce the trade unions.

Bernadette Ségol, the general-secretary of the ETUC, closed this training by expressing her satisfaction with the open discussion and the frank exchange of ideas.
